College Enrollment Rates of High School Graduates Decrease in 2006;
Women's Enrollment Shows Most Significant Drop

 

The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently
released new data on the post-graduation activities of high-school
graduates. This data indicated that in 2006, 66.0 percent of women high
school graduates enrolled in college, as compared with 65.5 percent of
male graduates. In the previous year, 70.4 percent of women high school
graduates entered college, as compared with 66.5 percent of men. Thus
while the general student population saw a decrease in college
enrollment rates, this drop in enrollment was greater for women than for
men.
