Call for Consultants
STEM Equity Pipeline Project
The National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity Education Foundation is
seeking qualified consultants to assist with the implementation of the
STEM Equity Pipeline project, an NSF funded grant.
Description of project:
The project will impact the formal education community at the state and
local level to increase its ability to act as a vehicle for female
students to enter careers in science, technology, engineering, and math
(STEM). The project's goal is to increase the participation of females
in secondary and postsecondary STEM Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Career Cluster programs and the related academic courses necessary for
successful secondary-postsecondary transition and degree completion. An
Extension Services Group (ESG) of gender equity in STEM research and
practice experts will provide consulting and professional development
services to state extension agent teams. Throughout the project's life,
thirteen state teams will be trained to provide extension services to
local education agencies and community-based organization staff to
implement an institutional change process. Training for state teams will
include: 1) An annual seminar focused on best practices, 2) Professional
development webcasts and webinars, 3) A web-based Virtual Learning
Community, and 4) on-going technical assistance. A best practices
handbook will be published. An external evaluator will collect data to
evaluate progress towards the projects stated goals.
Consultant Qualifications:
* Experience working with state secondary and/or postsecondary
agencies
* Knowledge of the career technical education system at the
secondary and postsecondary level
* Teaching and/or administrative experience preferably in
science, technology, engineering, math, STEM career technical education
program or related area
* Knowledge of current research base on the recruitment and
participation of females in STEM
* Cultural competency
* Ability to conduct training on gender equity and diversity
* Experience in conducting professional development and
technical assistance with educators and/or state agency personnel
* Self-motivated, highly organized
* Willing to travel
* Access to needed technology and work environment
o High speed internet access
o Email, phone, fax, scanner
o Laptop computer and appropriate software
Responsibilities:
* Provide technical assistance to state teams of STEM educators
and professionals regarding the implementation of the STEM Equity
Pipeline project activities
* Be trained in the use of the Five-Step Program Improvement
Model
* Implement training with State Team/s
* Assist State Team/s in developing annual work plan
* Monitor State Team/s progress
* Work with evaluator to implement evaluation plan/s
* Maintain regular monthly communication with State Team/s via
phone and email
* Make on-site visit with State Team/s quarterly to conduct
training and assess progress
* Submit resources and relevant information to the Virtual
Learning Community (VLC) site and listserv
* Attend annual STEM Equity Pipeline Project leadership training
* Attend and present at the NAPE annual professional development
institute
* Assist with the development of webinars and webcasts on best
practices for recruiting and retaining women and girls in STEM CTE
career cluster programs
* Submit monthly activity reports, professional services
invoices and expense reimbursements
* Stay informed regarding current events and research on STEM
education and CTE
